In a momentous display of respect, leadership, and cultural pride, the student leaders and administration from Naalya Secondary Schools Namugongo, Bweyogerere, and Lugazi Campuses paid a courtesy visit to the office of the Katikiro of Buganda, Owekitibwa Charles Peter Mayiga, at Bulange Mengo.

The visit, which took place on 31st March 2026, was more than a formal introduction; it was a profound learning experience for the young leaders. The delegation, comprising Senior Adminstrators, Students’ Leaders and Teachers from the three campuses, was received with the warmth and dignity that characterizes the Katikiro’s office.

The purpose of the visit was to strengthen the bond between the schools and the Kingdom’s leadership, while also seeking guidance on how to nurture responsible, visionary, and diligent leaders who will serve both Buganda Kingdom and Uganda with integrity.

Wisdom from the Katikiro
The highlight of the visit was the address by Owekitibwa Charles Peter Mayiga, who took time to speak directly to the student leaders. In his characteristic eloquence, he emphasized that true leadership is not about titles but about service, discipline, and a deep sense of responsibility.

He advised the students on several key pillars necessary for becoming strong and effective leaders:

Embrace Education and Knowledge: The Katikiro reminded the students that education is the foundation of meaningful leadership. He urged them to take their studies seriously, noting that an informed mind is essential for solving the complex challenges facing society today.
·Cultivate Discipline and Integrity: He stressed that a leader without discipline is like a building without a foundation. He encouraged the students to uphold honesty, punctuality, and accountability in all their endeavors, both within school and beyond.
Know Your Culture and Identity: Drawing from the rich heritage of Buganda, the Katikiro advised the young leaders to take pride in their culture. He noted that understanding one’s roots builds confidence and provides a moral compass that guides decision-making.
Serve with Humility: True leadership, he explained, is found in serving others. He challenged the student leaders to lead by example, to listen to those they lead, and to always prioritize the common good over personal gain.
Be Visionary and Diligent: Finally, he encouraged the students to dream big but to pair those dreams with hard work. “Diligence turns vision into reality,” he said, urging them to be consistent and persistent in their pursuits.

A Renewed Commitment
The student leaders left Bulange Mengo deeply inspired and motivated. Speaking after the visit, the Prime Minister of Naalya Secondary School Bweyogerere Rt Hon Duncan Mathew Walusimbi expressed gratitude on behalf of the delegation, noting that the Katikiro’s words had reignited their passion for servant leadership.

The Headteacher of Bweyogerere Campus described the visit as a milestone in the schools’ ongoing efforts to develop holistic leaders who are not only academically excellent but also culturally grounded and morally upright.

As Naalya Secondary Schools continue to strive for excellence, this visit serves as a reminder of the importance of bridging education with cultural values. The lessons shared by Owekitibwa Charles Peter Mayiga will undoubtedly echo in the halls of our campuses for years to come.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Katikiro and his office for the warm reception and invaluable guidance. Together, we look forward to nurturing a generation of strong, diligent, and visionary leaders for Buganda and Uganda.
